An information dissemination seminar was hosted by Sudokkho on 25 July 2016 in Lakeshore Hotel, Dhaka to share the findings from a pilot project through a training system for sewing machine operations that was implemented in the readymade garments (RMG) factories. Sudokkho partnered with a leading British brand, Debenhams and a local group of companies, Urmi Group, to conduct this pilot project.
Paul Weijers, Team Leader, Sudokkho, representatives from Debenhams and Urmi Group gave the welcome speeches. The presentation of the findings was conducted by Dr Rajesh Bheda, CEO and Managing Director, Rajesh Bheda Consulting Pvt Ltd. who implemented the training system. The first session of the seminar was with the participating factories, Sudokkho and its implementing partners. Results demonstrated that the training system was successfully piloted in the factories. Challenges were highlighted with appropriate mitigation strategies.
In the second session, results were presented to a wider group of audience which included representatives from other brands, buyers, buying agents and RMG factories. Experiences from the participating factories provided useful insights for other factories who are interested to implement the training system. Management, trainers and assessors all shared their experiences which further enriched the discussions. Some factories also recommended to introduce training systems for other occupations such as finishing section and sweater manufacturing.
The discussions clearly reflected a high level of interest amongst RMG factories to take on such training systems that proved to be effective.
Sudokkho is a 5-year skills training and employment programme, funded by DFID and SDC and implemented by Palladium in a consortium with Swisscontact and the British Council.
